About Jan and Alex...
Jan Gerdes, the owner of Alexandra's Formals, grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where her family owned a floral and bridal business dating back to 1982.
Jan moved to Forsyth and began her teaching career in the early 90's, but took leave in 2013 to pursue her lifelong dream. While she had a passion for teaching, her dream had always been to open up her very own formal wear business.
Gerdes has fashion expertise dating back to her years as a teenager. "I grew up doing fashion for people and getting them ready for weddings and have always loved it."
More fashion expertise was gained with her daughter, Alex, who started competing in pageants at three months of age. "We had to travel everywhere to find dresses because there was no where around here that carried a lot of the lines that are popular." This furthered Jan's inspiration to open up a formal wear shop.
Now with Alexandra's Formals, there's something for everyone. The store offers a wide variety of dresses that women love, from designers like Tony Bowls, Jovani, David Tutera, and Sophia Tolli.
Alexandra's will also cater to bridesmaids, mothers of the bride, and carry robes for wedding parties. Tuxedos are also offered for men from 30 different companies.
